responses to voter guide questions

1. Why are you running for school board and what are your qualifications?

I am running for school board because I believe that education is the backbone of our community.  A superior education for our children makes for a strong and thriving community.

I am a veteran of the luxury hospitality industry, having worked as a hotel concierge for over 30 years. I believe that I am uniquely qualified due to my people skills and a “think out of the box” approach to problem solving. Excellence in service is a constant in my professional life and I hope to apply this skill to serving on the school board.  I am also the mother of a child that will be attending New Trier High School in the Fall.

2. What are your top priorities for D203 and what do you hope to accomplish as a board member?

-Maintaining and supporting academic excellence
-Parental Engagement
-Fiscal responsibility and transparency

3. How should D203 address the different needs of all students?

I think D203 does a fine job currently with this.  I have seen this through personal experience, having had a counselor meet with our family to tailor my son’s classes to his needs and interests prior to starting school.

4. What are your views on New Trier High School’s curriculum?

I love the wide choice of classes offered to students.  It gives them a chance to discover new interests and to challenge themselves.

5. What do you feel the community’s role should be in public high school education?

I have discovered that many people here have either attended New Trier themselves, have children attending or have children who will attend.  They are productive members of the community and as taxpayers supporting our school, they should be able to share their opinions and their input should be welcome.
