volunteer for the village

Over 70 Wilmette residents serve on 13 boards and commissions, for which there are vacancies from time to time.  The Village President appoints members to the boards and commissions with the approval of the Village Board.  See the Village of Wilmette webpage on Boards and Commissions for more information on the different boards and commissions, current vacancies, and how to apply.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OBSERVER CORPS

Monitoring local government meetings is a long-established practice of the League of Women Voters. It is one approach to help inform citizens about current issues and their governments. Members volunteer to attend or watch a meeting and share what they observed in a written report.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT LEADERS

For more than 50 years, our League has run the Student Government Leaders program to enhance students’ knowledge of local government. 8th grade students from area schools study topics alongside elected village officials, then participate in a televised mock board meeting.
