Reproductive Rights

reproductive rights

The League of Women Voters supports the right of every US resident to have access to affordable, quality health care, including birth control and the privacy to make reproductive choices. As an ally of reproductive rights organizations, we know that safe access to health care, including abortion, is essential to our democracy.
We envision a world where every person participates with dignity as and equal member of society, regardless of gender. Where every woman is free to decide whether or when to have children and whether to get married; where access to quality reproductive health care is guaranteed; and where every woman can make these decisions free from coercion or discrimination.

plans this year

The Reproductive Rights action focus team will plan educational programs and develop opportunities to join the fight. Working with the LWV in Kansas,  we did phone banking to urge voters to vote no on an amendment that would have allowed further erosion of Reproductive Rights. We also sent GOTV postcards to residents of Lake County urging them to research candidates for Illinois Supreme Court. We are hosting an educational webinar about the state of abortion rights in Illinois.

More events and opportunities to get involved will continue throughout the year. To join the Reproductive Rights Action Focus team, email LWVW Co-President Anne Sullivan.

Governor Pritzker and the Illinois General Assembly Leadership are promising to convene a special session, and we post updates as they occur.

Voting rights and abortion rights are essential to a democracy where all people can participate equally.
