Redistricting:

Gerrymandering Survey Responses on Fair Maps Released by IL Redistricting Collaborative
Ahead of the March Primary candidates for governor in both parties were given the opportunity to demonstrate to voters their commitment to fair and independent maps. The LWVIL was one of the organizations involved in crafting the survey.
The winner of the 2018 governor's race will play a major role in the next redistricting process in 2021 that will determine if Illinois' legislative and Congressional maps are fair or gerrymandered for the following decade. The governor can choose to approve or veto those maps.
The survey asked candidates specific questions about gerrymandering such as if they would support creating an independent redistricting commission to take over the mapmaking process, if they would actively advocate for a constitutional amendment to be passed by the Illinois General Assembly, and supporting key changes to the process to increase transparency and public participation.
