About Us
The League of Women
Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots, multi-issue, activist organization.
It is organized in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia, the
Virgin Islands and Guam. The Wilmette League began in 1924. Throughout its
80 years of history, the League has been a strong force working for
active, informed citizen participation in politics.
Any citizen
over 18, male or female, may become a member of the League of Women
Voters. The purposes of the league are:
- To establish
positions on public policy through member participation and
agreement.
- To take
concrete actions that secure policies consistent with League
positions.
- To enhance
citizen participation in federal, state, and local government
decisions.
- To increase
citizen participation in the election process
